The April 2019 ScrawlrBox

In April the ScrawlrBox featured Ecoline brushmarkers and Uni Pin fine tip pens. For those who want to try out these supplies for themselves, I have included my Amazon Affiliate links down below.

Cutie Boots took the first look. He liked the crinkly paper.

When Cutie Boots moved, this is what I saw. Pretty pastel colors!

Cutie Boots decided to try and sit in the box, but it was too small! (That didn't stop him though, haha!)

The main supply in the box was a set of five Royal Talens Ecoline Brush Pens. The colors were pastel shades. These brush pens have watercolor ink and are water soluble. You can get this set for around $14.44.

Second there was a Viking Element HB pencil. This is a sketching pencil and runs about $18.99 for 24 on ebay.

The third pair of supplies was two Uni Pin Drawing pens. There were two shades of grey, light and dark. The dark grey pen had a 0.1 mm fine tip nib and the light grey had a 0.5 mm fine tip nib. These pens are waterproof and lightfast. These pens can be found in a set of 6 on Amazon for around $12.49.

Next there was a Kneadable Faber-Castell eraser. This one was white instead of the usual grey color. It costs around $4.00 for two on Amazon.

There was also two sheets of card stock paper, but ScrawlrBox didn't say what brand.

Then there an art supplies list, a print by Kiki B, and a Fruit Salad candy. The candy tasted like a strawberry Starburst. I liked it.

Doodlin ' Time!

The Uni Pin drawing pens are nice and smooth and the light grey is a neat color to have for shading. The Ecoline Brush Pens were really pretty pastel shades and made nice watercolor washes. The Viking Element pencil worked fine for sketching and the Faber-Castell kneaded eraser cleaned up stray pencil marks very nicely.

Art Nouveau Design

from 'Art Nouveau' by Edmund V. Gillon Jr.

I decided to draw a design from Art Nouveau which has a collection of royalty free designs. (I really like this book for creating designs or just practicing detail work.) I used the Viking Element pencil to sketch the woman and then used the Ecoline markers to make a watercolor wash. Since I didn't have any flesh colors, I decided to make the woman an alien artist with blue skin and use all the other colors for her clothes. I found that the Ecoline markers work best when you apply water immediately after you lay down the color. If I waited too long the color wouldn't spread as well. For the final details, I used the Uni Pin detail pens. They worked great over the washes and didn't bleed. The light grey was really nice for making unobtrusive details that didn't look too bold.

Check out the ScrawlrBox at http://scrawlrbox.uk/  They start at £15 a month with free shipping in the UK. Everyone else pays shipping costs. For the US, the total cost is roughly $25 to $30 including the shipping cost.
