March 2019 ScrawlrBox

The March ScrawlrBox featured super soft Staedtler colored pencils and Derwent blenders. For those who want to try these supplies for themselves, I have included my Amazon Affiliate links down below.

When I opened the box I saw lots of stuff including Staedtler super soft colored pencils! I've been wanting to try out some soft Staedtler colored pencils!

Cutie Boots said "I'm busy cleaning and I don't care."

The first item I received was a pack of 12 Staedtler Super Soft Colored pencils. This pack had a nice range of rainbow colors. These are wax based pencils and a new product from Staedtler. Right now they are not on Amazon, but a regular set of Staedtler colored pencils goes for around $16.93 per 12 pack.

"Hey, Cutie Boots, look at these pretty pencils!" I said. Nope, he was still not interested.

Second there was a Derwent burnisher pencil and a Derwent blender pencil. These pencils are clear and are used for blending the colors and sort of polishing the final layer of wax. You can get these in a pack of four on Amazon for $9.03.

Third there was a big triangular YPO Jumbo pencil. These pencils are nice to hold and great for sketching. You can find it on https://www.ypo.co.uk/

Next there was a white Koh-I-Noor Woodless colored pencil that could also be used for blending. You can get it in a pack of 12 for $10.94 on Amazon.

Then there was a Pilot V Ball pen. This pen had black ink and is available in a pack of 12 for $13.84 on Amazon.

"Look Cutie Boots even more pencils!" I said. But he still didn't care. He was so exhausted from his bath that he went to sleep. Cats are so funny!

To go with all the pencils there was a M and R pencil sharpener. This retails for around $11.10 on Amazon.

The last item was a small West Design sketchbook. These notebooks are available in a pack of 5 for $24.04 on Amazon.

For March the ScrawlrBox featured Sakuems, who makes beautiful pictures and also makes coloring pages. She also has a great YouTube channel! ScrawlrBox even included one of her coloring pages made from the print of the month. Very pretty!

There was also the art supplies list, a ScrawlrBox sticker, and a butterscotch mint candy. I gotta say, butterscotch and mint don't mix for me. I like them separately, but not mixed together!

Doodlin ' Time!

The West Design Sketchbook had a toothy surface that worked well with the colored pencils. The Staedtler Super Soft Colored pencils blend fairly well and have bright colors. In my opinion, they are not quite as soft as Prismacolors or Polychromos pencils. The Derwent blender and burnisher pencils worked well on these pencils and the Koh-I-Noor Woodless white colored pencil blended pretty well too. The YPO Jumbo Graphite pencil has a nice dark lead. The Pilot V Ball is very smooth and made nice details. The pencil sharpener also worked fine.

'Wooden Cross with Flowers'

by Ellie Taylor

Since it was Easter time when I drew this, I did a quick color sketch of a wooden cross with flowers twining around it. I used the YPO pencil to make the beginning sketch and used the Staedtler coloring pencils to make the wood texture and flowers. The colors didn't start blending until I used the blender, burnisher, and white Koh-I-Noor pencil. The blenders made everything come together nicely. I used a lot of loose strokes of purple and blue colors to make the background. I added the final details with the Pilot V Ball pen and the ink went on over the colored pencils just fine with no problems and no clogging of the pen nib. I think these Staedtler colored pencils are very nice for coloring book hobbyists and beginners. Also, they are good as a budget alternative to more expensive pencils.

Check out the ScrawlrBox at http://scrawlrbox.uk/ They start at £15 a month with free shipping in the UK. Everyone else pays shipping costs. For the US, the total cost is roughly $25 to $30 including the shipping cost.
