ArtSnacks Box for April 2019

The ArtSnacks box for April featured an Ironlak paint pen and a Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencil! For those who want to try out these supplies for themselves, I have included my Amazon Affiliate links down below including my UK links.

When I opened the box this what I saw. Wow, is that a Luminance pencil!?!

Of course Cutie Boots grabbed the Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencil. He has expensive tastes!

The first supply I looked at was the Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencil. I received the Pthalocyanine Blue color. This brand of colored pencils is one of the most expensive colored pencils in the world. Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencils are wax based, very pigmented, and very lightfast. They are available in sets of 12, 20, 40, 72, and 80. The sets range in price from $32 for the twelve pencil set to around $200 for the seventy-two set on Amazon. You can buy them open stock on dickblick.com for $4.49 a piece.

The second supply was an Ironlak Pump Action Paint Marker. This marker was acrylic and has a replaceable bullet nib. This marker is also refillable. I got a green colored marker. You can get a pack of 4 Ironlak paint markers for $22.99 on Amazon.

The next item was a Zebra Zensations Double Ended brush pen. This pen has a medium and fine brush tip and has waterproof highly pigmented ink. This pen retails around $4.50 on Amazon.

The last item was a Pentel Orenz 0.5 mm One Click pencil. This pencil has a mechanism that reduces the lead breakage. It retails on Amazon for $6.99.

Then there was the art supply list, an ArtSnacks sticker, and a Laffy Taffy candy.

Doodlin ' Time !

The Zebra Zensations brush pen made fine lines that were good for details. The Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencil was very smooth and pigmented. The Pentel Orenz 0.5 mm mechanical pencil works fairly well and the metal sleeve mechanism keeps the point from breaking. The Ironlak paint marker had good coverage and dried quickly.

'Blue Flower Sketch'

by Ellie Taylor

I used the Pentel mechanical pencil to sketch the flower. Then I used the Luminance colored pencil to color the flower blue. I used the Ironlak paint pen to paint the flower leaves and stem. Next I used the Zebra Zensations pen to add details to the leaves and stem. The Luminance colored pencil was very smooth and it layered very well. This pencil was smoother and softer than even the Prismacolor pencils. It was also highly pigmented.

So I have a problem: I really, really liked the Luminance colored pencil! I thought they would be comparable to Prismacolors or Polychromos, but they are even better! However, these pencils are some of the most expensive colored pencils available, sigh. I will wait and watch and see if I can find a deal on them. Maybe around Christmas time or at year end clearance sales there will be a bargain. The Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencils are definitely for professional work.

This box was very informative and I got to try out an art supply that I never would have gotten on my own. (Not sure if that was good or bad, haha, since now I want to get the most expensive supplies ever!)

If you want to try out this subscription box company, their website is http://www.artsnacks.co/ The boxes start at $24 a month with free shipping to the United States. International shipping is available for $34 with free shipping.
