January 2019 ScrawlrBox

In January the Scrawlrbox featured Winsor Newton Promarkers and Sakura pens. (Shh, don't tell anybody, but I like Winsor Newton alcohol markers better than Copics.) For those who want to try out these supplies for themselves, I have included my Amazon and MisterArt affiliate links down below including my Amazon UK and Canada links.

When I opened the box, this is what I saw. Winsor Newton Promarkers, one of my favorite alcohol markers!

Cutie Boots promptly carried off one of the Sakura pens. The Winsor Newton markers were too big for his mouth! (He tried to get one of those too.)

The first items I received were three Winsor Newton Promarkers. These markers have a bullet nib and a chisel nib. Unlike Copics and some other brands, these markers are not refillable. The colors I received were Spice, Blush, and Tan. They retail on Misterart.com for $2.99 when you join their VIP member club.

The second group of items was two Sakura Pigma pens. There was a brush pen and a .01 micron pen with a very fine tip. This ink is waterproof and lightfast.

The third item was a white Faber-Castell Pitt Artist pen with a 1.5 mm nib. It has India ink which is waterproof and lighfast.

Then there was a Faber-Castell 2H pencil for sketching. These are available on Amazon in a group of 12 pencils for $8.51.

Finally, there was two pieces of Canaletto 160 gsm Liscia paper.

There was the art supplies list, a ScrawlrBox sticker, a print from the artist of the month, Giobi, and a butterscotch candy. It tasted sort of like the Werther's butterscotch candy in the USA. I liked it.

Doodlin ' Time !

As usual, the Sakura Pigma pens were great for detail work and thin lines. The Winsor Newton Promarkers blend very well. The Faber-Castell pencil worked great for sketching. The white Faber-Castell Pitt pen covered over the black ink very well. The Canaletto Liscia paper had a smooth surface and was nice and thick. The alcohol markers did go through the paper, but alcohol markers do that with most papers.

I made a quick sketch of one of my cats using the Faber-Castell pencil. Then I added color with the Winsor Newton Promarkers. I outlined the cat and added details with the Sakura pens. I used the Faber-Castell Pitt pen to add highlights and also make corrections. This time the white Faber-Castell Pitt pen worked just fine. The nib on the one that I got in the ArtSnacks Box jammed back up into the barrel, but this one seemed to be okay. Overall this box had some very nice markers and pens. Winsor Newton Promarkers are high quality markers, comparable to Copics, and Sakura pens are also very good quality.

Check out the ScrawlrBox at http://scrawlrbox.uk/ They start at £15 a month with free shipping in the UK. Everyone else pays shipping costs. For the US, the total cost is roughly $25 to $30 including the shipping cost.
