ScrawlrBox for December 2018

In December the ScrawlrBox featured some neat new erasable markers that I had never heard of before! Let's check them out! For those who want to try out some of these supplies for themselves, I have included my Amazon Affiliate links down below including my UK and Canada links.

When I opened the box, this is what I saw!  Pilot Frixion markers? I'd never seen these.

Cutie Boots fished out the Pilot Frixion erasable pen and hid it under a blanket.

After retrieving the Pilot Frixion Ballpoint pen from under the blanket, I took a closer look. This pen has black ink and it has a soft rubber tip on the end which acts as an eraser. It also has an ergonomic grip on it.

Next there was a five pack of pastel colored Pilot Frixion markers. These markers have a chisel nib and they are erasable! The colors were light yellow, light purple, light blue, light aqua, and light pink. Like the Frixion pen these markers have a soft rubber tip on the end for erasing the ink.

Then were two black Sharpie markers. These markers are permanent and have an Ultra Fine Point and a Fine Point. Sharpies are some of the most popular markers and are available everywhere. You can find them on Amazon or dickblick.com.

The last marker was a silver Pentel Paint marker with an extra fine point. This paint is waterproof when dry.

Last there was three sheets of Norfolk Cartridge 210 gsm paper. This is a fairly thick paper and stands up well to erasing.

Sometimes for Cutie Boots the box is the best part! Biting it is lots of fun. Crawling in it is too!

Then there was the art supplies list, a ScrawlrBox sticker, a print from the artist of the month, Ann Pellegrino, and a Glacier Fruits candy. This candy tasted like a Jolly Rancher and was good.

Doodlin ' Time !

The Sharpie pens work well for outlines and the Ultra Fine pen is good for detail work. Sharpies are good for journaling and pen sketches. The Pilot Frixion Ball pen wrote very smoothly and the rubber tip worked great for erasing the ink. These are sort of comparable to Erasermate pens. The Pilot Frixion Erasable Highlighter markers had pretty colors and they also erased nicely. They blended together fairly well. The Pentel silver paint marker had good coverage and the extra fine point was very nice for adding details.

'Pink Elephant'

by Ellie Taylor

I decided to practice my cartooning skills by using an example out of Christopher Hart's book, 'Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Cartooning but Were Afraid to Draw'. I highly recommend his drawing books and he has tons out on lots of subjects from cartooning to highly realistic drawing. He is a very good drawing instructor.

I drew a pink elephant using the Pilot Frixion highlighters. I used a pink layer and then added a yellow layer for highlights. I used a purple layer for some shadow and I found that you can blend these markers while they are still wet. After they dry, they tend to get a little bit sticky and won't blend as well. I used aqua and blue for his toenails and ears. I outlined the the elephant withe the Sharpies and tried to add some metallic highlights with the silver Pentel paint marker, but it didn't show up as well as I wanted. The silver paint marker would show up better on a darker background.

This was an interesting box because I learned about a new product. I had no idea that there were erasable highlighters in existence! That is a really neat idea and I wish I would have had them in my highschool and college days. They would have come in handy! Still they are fun to play around with now and work great for sketches.

Check out the ScrawlrBox at http://scrawlrbox.uk/  They start at £15 a month with free shipping in the UK. Everyone else pays shipping costs. For the US, the total cost is roughly $25 to $30 including the shipping cost.
