The 2018 November ScrawlrBox
The November ScrawlrBox featured a whole bunch of doodling supplies including pens, colored pencils, and a big graphite pencil. For those who want to try out these supplies for themselves, I have included my Amazon Affiliate links down below including my UK and Canada links.
When I opened the box Cutie Boots started playing with all the pens. He loves the skinny pens the best! (Easier to carry in his mouth and hide them under the bed.)
The first items that I received were three Staedtler Ergosoft Colored Pencils. The colors I received were pink, purple, and turquoise. These colored pencils have a triangular shape to keep them from rolling off the desk and they have a textured covering that gives a nice grip. You can find these pencil in a pack of 12, 24, or 36. The 36 set costs around $25.58.
The second group of items was three Bic Cristal Fun Ballpoint pens. These pens were in purple, pink, and turquoise with a 1.6 mm tip. A pack of 24 pens costs $6.19 on Amazon.
The next item was a white Pentel Hybrid DX gel pen. This pen is water resistant and light resistant. It is available on Amazon for around $7.99.
Then there was a big thick graphite stick from Koh-I-Noor Hardtmuth. This was a woodless 2B pencil made of graphite in a hexagonal shape. You can find these on www.jacksonsart.com for around $1.49 on their website.
Then there was another ballpoint pen from the Helix Oxford brand. This pen is waterproof and had black ink. You can get these pens in a pack of 6 for $2.03 on Amazon.
Cutie Boots really like this pen because it was sort of made like a Gelly Roll pen.
The last group of pencils was a Koh-I-Noor Hardtmuth 2B graphite pencil and a 6312 pencil eraser. The graphite pencil can be found in a 4 pack for $12.72 and the eraser pencil is available on www.jacksonsart.com for 96 cents a piece.
The last item was a Leuchtturm 1917 Jottbook. It was 145 mm by 210 mm or approximately 5 inches by 8 inches and can be used to take notes or make quick sketches. This retails for around $8.95 on Amazon.
There was also the art supplies list, a print by Taylor Brooker, a neat new design for the ScrawlrBox sticker, and a Melody Pop. I think these are like our US Whistle Pops or what used to be called Whistle Pops.
'Doodlin ' Time!
The Helix Oxford Ballpoint pen works great for outlining drawings. I liked the feel of Staedtler Ergosoft pencils because they had good coverage and had soft leads. The Bic Cristal Fun Ballpoint pens write very smoothly and the colors are very bright. The white Pentel Hybrid DX gel pen has very good coverage and can be used for highlights. The Koh-I-Noor graphite stick and pencil are great for sketching and shading and the Koh-I-Noor eraser stick works really well for erasing. I use these eraser pencils for detail work in my charcoal pictures and the Koh-I-Noor ones are very nice. The Koh-I-Noor blending stump works well on graphite and charcoal too.
For testing out these pens, I decided to do some doodling exercises from 'Kawaii Doodle Class' by Zainab Khan. This book shows how to draw cute little doodles of objects with cute Kawaii faces. This book is a lot of fun and the exercises are easy to follow. I used the Koh-I-Noor pencil and graphite stick to sketch the doodles. Then I used the Bic pens and Ergosoft pencils to color the drawings and the Helix pen to outline the doodles. These supplies are great for quick sketches and doodles in a sketchbook like the Leuchtturm Jottbook.
