SketchBox for November 2018 (Basic Box)
For November the SketchBox Basic Box featured alcohol markers and even had their own brand included! Let's see how SketchBox's markers compare to all the other brands. If you are interested in trying these supplies for yourself, I have included my Amazon Affiliate links down below including my UK and Canada links.
When you open the box this is what you see. Markers! Lots of markers!
Cutie Boots picked his favorite supply, the Gelly Roll pen!
He loves the Gelly Roll pens! (They are easy to bite.)
The first items I received were three Stylefile markers. These are alcohol markers and have a brush nib and a chisel tip nib. The colors I got were Yellow Ochre, Brick Brown, and Cool Grey. These are available at Amazon in sets of 12 for around $37.49.
The second group of items I received was a pair of SketchBox markers. These are the SketchBox 2.0 signature alcohol markers and have been redesigned with a new brush nib and chisel nib. I received two colors: Fern and Praline. These markers are available on SketchBox's website and retail for $6.99 a piece.
Last there was a white Gelly Roll pen for making highlights. Gelly Roll pens are lightfast and waterproof. You can get these in a group of three on Amazon for $3.14.
There was also a supplies list, a print by the artist of the month, Natasha Price, and a SketchBox sticker.
The design on the November box was created by Russell R.
Doodlin' Time!
The SketchBox Brush Markers have a nice flexible nib and blend nicely. The Stylefile brush markers also have a nice flexible nib and blend well. Of course the white Gelly Roll pen makes great highlights.
'Monument Valley Rocks'
by Ellie Taylor
I drew a quick marker sketch of some Monument valley landmarks. The Stylefile alcohol markers are nice and bright and the SketchBox markers are good for blending. I think these markers are pretty good quality. They might not blend quite as smoothly as Copics or Winsor Newton brush markers, but they are nice. I used the Gelly Roll pen to make the final highlights on the rocks. I like how this turned out. It has a nice illustrative sketchy look. This was an interesting box and I didn't know SketchBox had their own line of markers. I enjoyed trying out their markers.
