The November and December 2018 Artsnacks Boxes.

I have been very busy in November and so I'm behind on the reviews of my ArtSnacks boxes! So I decided to review two boxes in this blog post. The November ArtSnacks box featured acrylic gouache, while the December box featured a giant paint marker. If you want to try out some of these supplies for yourself, I have included my Amazon Affiliate links down below including my UK and Canada links.

Here was what the November box contained. Liquitex Acrylic Gouache!

The first item that I received was a 2 ounce bottle of Liquitex Acrylic Gouache. The color I got was Primary Red. This paint is mainly acrylic paint with a matte finish and differs from regular gouache in that it does not reactivate with water. It dries to a permanent finish like regular acrylic paint. This retails for around $38.26 for a set of six primary colors on Amazon.

To go with the acrylic paint was a Winsor Newton Galeria #3 round brush. You can find this on Amazon in a set of four brushes for $16.03.

Third there was a Sakura Microperm 01 pen. This pen is waterproof and lightfast. These are available in a 3 pack on Amazon for $9.69.

Finally there was a Cretacolor MegaGraphite 6B pencil. You can find these at http://www.artsupplywarehouse.com/ for $1.76 a piece.

There was also the supplies list, an information card on the new Liquitex Acrylic Gouache, an ArtSnacks sticker, and some Sweetarts.

Cutie Boots liked the paint brush. You know, a funny thing keeps happening in my studio, I keep finding my paintbrushes scattered all over the floor in the mornings. I think Cutie Boots has decided that all art supplies are cat toys.

Then he wanted to see what was in the December ArtSnacks Box. Are there any Gelly Roll pens in there?

The first item we found was a 4 pack of Faber-Castell Pitt Artist pens. These have black India ink in them and are waterproof and lightfast. This pack has a brush nib, soft brush nib, a calligraphy nib, and a bullet nib. It retails for around $7.50.

Then there was a GIANT Krink K-75 paint marker with a 7mm chisel nib. This marker has an alcohol based paint. I received a Yellow paint marker. They retail for $10.11 on dickblick.com and are available on Amazon as well.

Third there was a General's graphite draughting pencil. These are available at Amazon in a 2 pack for around $4.43.

Finally there was a neat new pen from Tombow! Tombow has a Fudenosuke Colors Brush Pen. This pen has a hard tip and is water based. The color I received was blue. However you can get a black ink 2 pack for $3.92 on Amazon.

There was the supplies list, a candy cane, and an ArtSnacks sticker with a cute sweater pattern to celebrate Christmas.

Doodlin' Time!

The Liquitex Acrylic Gouache had really good coverage and was a really pigmented color. The Winsor Newton brush made really nice strokes and was good for details. The Sakura Microperm Pen was great for final details. The Cretacolor MegaGraphite Pencil was very comfortable in my hand and good for quick sketches.

The gigantic KRINK paint marker had a really brilliant yellow color and was great for covering large areas with paint. The Faber-Castell Pitt pens are great for varying line thicknesses. The Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen was nice for coloring in details. The General's Draughting pencil works well for quick sketches.

"Yule Goat"

by Ellie Taylor

In Scandinavian countries in the 1800s there was a tradition of Santa Claus (or Father Christmas) riding a goat to deliver presents. I thought this was a cute idea and I drew the goat (called the Yule Goat) here. I also drew the full picture with Santa Claus, too. Here's the YouTube video of that. https://youtu.be/bUeqNna_VM8

I sketched the goat with the graphite pencils and then used the Liquitex Acrylic Gouache to paint the goat's hooves and the ribbon. Then I used the big KRINK paint marker to paint the bells, the goat's eyes, and the ground. I used the Tombow Fudenosuke to make the shadows. Last I used the Sakura and Faber-Castell pens for the final details.

The Liquitex Acrylic Gouache is really high quality paint. I like to use acrylic gouache with regular acrylic paint and the main difference is that the gouaches have a matte finish and aren't so shiny. The acrylic gouaches are just as opaque as the regular acrylics. I normally use Jo Sonja acrylic gouache, but I really like this Liquitex Acrylic Gouache. I will definitely get some more.
