ArtSnacks Box for August 2018

For August the ArtSnacks box featured high quality watercolor pans from Daler-Rowney and quality watercolor paper from Canson. For those who want to try out some of these supplies for themselves, I have included my Amazon and MisterArt affiliate links down below. My Amazon UK and Canada links are included as well.

When I opened the box this is what I saw. Pan Watercolors!

Cutie Boots looked it over to see if there were any bugs in it! He is fascinated by bugs!

The main items were Daler-Rowney Aquafine watercolor pans. There were two pans per pack and I received Ultramarine Blue Light, Ultramarine Blue Dark, Cadmium Yellow Deep Hue, and Gamboge Hue. These watercolors have 3 out of 4 stars for permanence which means they have pretty good lightfastness. These retail in sets of 10 or 24 for around $16.49 or $35.14 on Misterart.com when you join their VIP club.

To go along with the watercolor paint was a synthetic #1 Robert Simmons Sable Round brush. One of my favorite brands. The white sable is available on Misterart.com for around $3.44 when you join their VIP club. (MisterArt has low prices even without their VIP club.)

For sketching the beginning drawing ArtSnacks included a regular Dixon Ticonderoga #2 pencil with their name on it. You can get 96 pencils for $9.96 on Amazon.

For final inking there was a double ended Kuretake Nihondate Kabura Fude brush pen No. 55 with a fine nib and a brush nib. This ink is water soluble.

There were three small Canson L'Aquarelle Heritage pieces of watercolor paper. The paper was 140 lb cold press paper. You can find a 9X12 inch pad of 12 sheets for $20.96 on Amazon or $14.40 at dickblick.com.

Then there was the supplies list, an ArtSnacks sticker, and a DumDum lollipop (blueberry flavored).

Cutie Boots' favorite supply was the lollipop. It had crinkly paper on it so he loved that.

Doodlin ' Time !

The Kuretake Fude brush pen made very fine lines with the fine nib and the brush pen made strokes like a sumi brush. The Daler-Rowney Aquafine watercolors were very pigmented and vibrant. The Robert Simmons brush worked great for details. The Dixon Ticonderoga HB pencil worked fine for quick sketches. The L'Aquarelle Canson watercolor paper was nice and thick and the paint spread on the paper very nicely.

'Yellow Butterfly Sketch'

by Ellie Taylor

I did a quick sketch with the Ticonderoga pencil and then painted the background with Ultramarine Blue Light. Then I painted the flower Ultramarine Deep Blue and the butterfly with Cadmium Yellow Deep Hue and Gamboge Hue. Then I mixed the yellows and blues together to get a green color for the stem. I inked the flower and butterfly with the Kuretake Fude brush pen, but I just used the fine nib this time.

These watercolors seem like very high quality paint and I love this watercolor paper. My favorite watercolor paper has been Arches, but I really want to try some more of the Canson L'Aquarelle Heritage watercolor paper. This box had some really high quality supplies in it and I really enjoyed it.

If you want to try out this subscription box company, their website is http://www.artsnacks.co/ The boxes start at $24 a month with free shipping to the United States. International shipping is available for $34 with free shipping.
