The June 2018 ScrawlrBox

In June the ScrawlrBox featured a very unique product, Chameleon colored pencils! Chameleon is famous for its patented Color Tone alcohol marker system and they have a unique brand of colored pencils too!

Here is my review of the Chameleon markers if you want to see what the markers are like. http://ellietaylorartist1.wixsite.com/ellie-taylor-artist/single-post/2017/07/13/June-2017-ScrawlrBoxChameleon-Marker-Review

When you open up the box this is what you see! Chameleon colored pencils!

For those who want to try these out for themselves, I have included my Amazon and MisterArt affiliate links down below. I have also included my Amazon UK and Canada links separately because the Onelink code doesn't seem to be working on this blog

The first items that I received were five double ended Chameleon colored pencils. These pencils have two different colors on each end. However, the shades of color are similar so that you can blend them together. The colors in my box were Teal/Pine, Hot Pink/Flourescent, Light Coral/Soft Shell, Cobalt Blue/Midnight Blue, and Heather/Iris. Chameleon colored pencils are available in a pack of 25 pencils which means there are 50 colors. You can buy them on Amazon for around $36.17. However, I purchased the 25 set for $24.98 in an Amazon Lightning Deal so keep an eye out for special deals and you can get a good price. They are also available open stock at the Chameleon store for several different countries. Here is their website https://www.chameleonartproducts.com/

The next item was a double ended Faber-Castell Perfection eraser pencil. One end has a regular pink eraser and the other has a rough eraser for ink. These are available in a pack of 3 for $9.92 on Amazon.

Third there was a Zig Writer-for-Vellum pen. This pen has waterproof archival ink and is double sided. It has a 1.2 mm bullet nib on one side and a 0.5 mm fine tip nib on the other. This pen comes in a pack of 8 on Amazon for around $19.99.

Then there was a Zig 2 Way Glue pen. This glue can make a temporary bond or a permanent bond. The glue appears blue when it is wet, but dries to a clear finish. It has a bullet nib applicator. It can be found at Misterart.com for $3.33.

ScrawlrBox partnered up with Carolina Ghelfi paper and gave us 10 sheets of A5 size paper. 5 sheets were smooth and 5 were rough. Carolina Ghelfi is the official distributor for Chameleon products in Australia.

Then there was a sheet of vellum, the supplies list, a ScrawlrBox sticker, a Wham strawberry taffy, and a print from the artist of the month, Loch Ness. The Wham candy tasted pretty much like Laffy Taffy and was good.

Doodlin' Time!

The Zig Writer for Vellum made very nice thick and thin lines and since it was double ended, it was like having two pens in one. You just flipped the pen over for a different width of line. The Chameleon Color Tone pencils were smooth and soft. They are not quite as soft as Prismacolors, but pretty close. The two tones of color on each pencil blend together very well and make a nice gradient. The Faber-Castell Perfection eraser works pretty good on colored pencils especially the rough eraser side. The Zig 2 Way glue seemed to make a strong bond with the tissue paper that I glued on to the smooth paper. The Carolina Ghelfi paper is nice and thick and seemed to work well with the Chameleon colored pencils.

'Drawing Wizard'

by Ellie Taylor

I used one of Mark Kistler's lessons to depict him as a drawing wizard because he is! He is a very good drawing teacher for kids and adults. I recommend any of his books. I used the purples and blues to color and shade the robe. For the face I used the shades of peach color and the pinks for the hat and background. On the ground, I mixed purple, pink, and peach. I used shades of green for the pencil wand. Finally, I inked the character with the Zig pen and it had no trouble drawing over the colored pencil. I used the smooth Carolina Ghelfi paper and it took layered colors very well.

Cutie Boots' Review

Cutie Boots tried out the box for size. It was a little too small for him to get into, haha!

Next Cutie Boots wanted to try out the Zig pen. I think he liked it!

So what did we think? Overall this was a very good box and one of my favorites. I really liked the Chameleon colored pencils so much that I bought the whole set! (Stay tuned for a separate review on them.)

Check out the ScrawlrBox at http://scrawlrbox.uk/ They start at £15 a month with free shipping in the UK. Everyone else pays shipping costs. For the US, the total cost is roughly $25 to $30 including the shipping cost.
