The ArtSnacks Box for June 2018
For June the ArtSnacks box featured a lot of neat stuff including a KUM sharpener, a Touch Twin marker, and more! If you want to try these supplies for yourselves, I have included my Amazon and MisterArt affiliate links down below.
This is what I saw when I opened the box. A Touch Twin marker! I have a few of these and they are good!
The first item I received was a KUM two step pencil sharpener. Once I figured out what this was I got excited! I have been thinking about getting one of these because they are really nice pencil sharpeners. It even comes with two spare blades. This sharpener works in a two step process: the first step shapes the wooden part of the pencil and the second step shapes the lead to a precision point. This sharpener retails for around $5.97 on Amazon.
The second item in the box was a SumoGrip Retractable eraser. This eraser extends out when you click the cap and is refillable. You can find it on Amazon for $7.34.
The third item was a Caran D'Ache Edelweiss 3B pencil. This pencil is for quick sketches. Amazon has a pack of 12 for $13.99.
Then there was a Zig Millennium 05 mm pen. This pen had black ink and was archival and waterproof. This pen can be found in a multi-pack with 5 different sizes on Amazon for around $15.76.
Finally there was a ShinHan Touch Twin alcohol marker. The color was Pastel Blue. These markers have a chisel nib and a brush nib. There are 204 colors in the Shin Han Brush Marker line and these markers have replaceable nibs and ink. These markers retail for about $3.75 and up. MisterArt has them for $3.75 a piece when you join their VIP member club.
Then there was some sour bubble gum (I used to chew this as a kid.), the supplies list, and a green ArtSnacks sticker.
Doodlin' Time!
The Zig Millennium pen made nice thin strokes and was great for detail work. The Caran D'Ache pencil worked great for sketching. The SumoGrip eraser seems to work very nicely and is very handy. The ShinHan Touch Twin marker blends very well and the brush nib makes very good brush-like strokes. These markers are very similar to Copics, Winsor Newton Brush Markers, and Blick Studio markers and are of similar quality.
Cutie Boots even tested out the Caran D'ache pencil.
To test out the KUM sharpener I used an ordinary #2 pencil.
Here is Step 1 where the first sharpener shapes the wooden part.
Here is Step 2 where the second sharpener shapes the lead into a fine point. As you can see the KUM sharpener makes a very nice point. I really like this sharpener!
'Watch Out'
by Ellie Taylor
I used the pencil to make a beginning sketch and colored the aliens blue with the ShinHan Touch Twin marker. Then I used the Zig Millennium pen to ink the cartoon. This cartoon is a concept sketch for a coloring page in my upcoming coloring book featuring my home state of New Mexico. I needed to work out the aliens' poses because I want to make the aliens a part of a bigger picture with them crashing into a sign pointing to Roswell. I just want this picture to be a funny and whimsical take on the Roswell UFO incident.
Overall this box had some really neat stuff in it and I really like that KUM pencil sharpener!
