May 2018 ScrawlrBox

For May the ScrawlrBox box featured a set of the new Spectra Ad markers. These are different from the original Chartpak markers in that they are alcohol based markers. For those who want to try out some of these supplies for themselves, I have included my Amazon and MisterArt affiliate links down below.

When you open the box this is what you see. A new brand of alcohol markers to try out!

The first items were a set of five Spectra Ad alcohol markers. The colors were Cherimoya Green, Chartreuse, Soft Coral, Terra Cotta, and a Blender. These markers have a brush and tri-chisel nib. The tri-chisel nib can make thin, medium, and thick lines. In this line there are 95 colors plus a colorless blender. They are also known as Chartpak markers and you can get them on Amazon, Art Supply Warehouse, and MisterArt.com. They retail from $2.75 and up. MisterArt has 84 of these colors and you can get more at Art Supply Warehouse.

The second item was a white Sakura Gelly Roll pen. You can get them on Amazon in a pack of two for $4.85.

The third item was a Sakura Pigma Micron PN Drawing pen. It is archival and waterproof with a fine tip nib. You can get a pack of 3 for $8.69 on Amazon.

Last there was some bleed-proof layout marker paper. It was 75 gsm, but I don't know the brand. Some of the light weight marker papers are Canson and Bee marker paper. My favorite is Bee paper. 50 sheet pads of these papers can be found on Amazon for around $9 to $10 for 8.5X11 and 9X12 inch sizes.

There was a supplies list, a citrus candy, a ScrawlrBox sticker, and a print by the artist of the month, Annika Landberg.

Doodlin' Time!

The Sakura Pigma Micron PN pen works very nice for sketching. The Gelly Roll white pen works very well for adding highlights on the markers. The Spectra Ad markers blend nicely and the brush nibs are flexible, but not too soft. The colorless blender worked well.

The markers didn't bleed through to the paper under it, so this marker paper worked well.

'Bullfinch Sketch'

by Ellie Taylor

I created a sketch of a Bullfinch using the Spectra Ad markers for the green background and the orange on the breast. I used the Gelly Roll pen for the light grey feathers and the Sakura Pigma PN pen for the black feathers. I also used the Pigma pen to sketch the tree branch. The Spectra Ad markers are very high quality markers and are comparable to Copics, Shin Han, Blick Studio, and Winsor Newton Brush Markers. In fact, these markers are a lot like the Shin Han Touch Twin alcohol markers. I really liked this box because I got to test out a new brand of high quality markers and they are economical too!

Check out the ScrawlrBox at http://scrawlrbox.uk/ They start at £15 a month with free shipping in the UK. Everyone else pays shipping costs. For the US, the total cost is roughly $25 to $30 including the shipping cost.

I also have the picture up above painted in acrylic on my ebay store. Check it out at https://www.ebay.com/str/ellietaylorartist
