March 2018 ScrawlrBox
The ScrawlrBox for March featured lots of colorful pens and pencils including a Wink of Luna Brush. For those of you who want to try these supplies for yourselves, I have included my Amazon affiliate links down below.
Here is what was in the box. Metallic gel pens!
The first item I received was a Kuretake Wink of Luna Brush. The color I received was metallic green.
The Wink of Luna Brush is like a waterbrush but with ink in it instead of water. This brush had a sparkly metallic ink in it. You can get this brush at Amazon for around $7.05.
The second item in the box was a Koh-I-Noor Magic Pencil. This is a thick colored pencil with a multicolored lead. The colors are blue, orange, and yellow in an alternating pattern. You can get this kind of pencil in a pack of three on Amazon for around $11.96.
Then I received two Pentel Hybrid Dual Metallic gel pens. The colors I received were metallic blue/green and metallic blue/violet. You can find these in a pack of 6 on Amazon for $16.99.
Finally there was a Pilot V5 Hi-Tecpoint 0.5 mm pen. The ink was black. This pen can be found on Amazon in a pack of six for $11.99.
There was also two pieces of black and white paper, the list of supplies, a print by the artist of the month, Anna Karoline Bjordal, and some Fizz Wizz popping candy. I remember this candy from when I was a kid!
Doodlin' Time!
The Pilot V5 Hi-Tecpoint pen made a nice thin line for great detail work. The Pentel gel pens had two tone shimmery ink in them and were very pretty. The Koh-I-Noor Magic pencil had bright flourescent colors and made a neat pattern. The Wink of Luna Brush had a very glittery ink and is great for special effects.
I decided to use the black paper and see how the pencil and pens looked on it. I have been playing around with drawing dangles and ornate lettering. I just purchased 'The Art of Drawing Dangles' by Olivia Kneibler so I did my name in an ornate letter style like she shows in her book. The Koh-I-Noor pencil didn't show up as well as I had hoped. It showed up better on white paper. The Pentel metallic gel pens showed up pretty good on the black paper, but only the blue in the blue/violet pen showed up on the black paper. The Wink of Luna brush worked the best on the black paper and showed up really well. In fact, the Wink of Luna brush showed up better on black paper than white. I used black ink of the Pilot V5 Hi-Tecpoint to correct minor mistakes in the shapes of the letters. In conclusion, I would say these are neat supplies for making decorative effects and I really liked the metallic ink pens and brush.
Check out the ScrawlrBox at http://scrawlrbox.uk/ They start at £15 a month with free shipping in the UK. Everyone else pays shipping costs. For the US, the total cost is roughly $25 to $30 including the shipping cost.
'The Art of Drawing Dangles' by Olivia Kneibler is a really neat book that shows how to make ornate letters and add all sorts of dangles to them. It's a fun book and shows how to do every letter of the alphabet. You can find it on Amazon for around $13.59.
