ArtSnacks Box for April 2018
There were some neat new supplies in the ArtSnacks Box for April including Daler Rowney acrylic ink and a neat new Tombow pen! If you want to try out these supplies for yourself, I have included my Amazon and MisterArt affiliate links down below.
Here's what was in the box! Ooh, watercolor paper samples! I love paper samples!
The first item in the box was Daler Rowney acrylic ink. The color in my box was Antelope Brown. This ink can be found on Misterart.com for $3.76 per 1 oz. bottle.
Second there was a Tombow Fudenosuke Twin Tip Brush Pen. This pen has a grey ink tip and a black ink tip. It can be found on Amazon in a pack of 3 for $7.52.
The third item was a Caran d'Ache Supracolor Aquarelle pencil. I got a Cobalt Blue one. This is a water soluble colored pencil. These can be found open stock on dickblick.com for $2.77 and in a set of 12 for $20.16 on Amazon.
Then there was a Robert Simmons #6 Acrylic Shader brush. This was a short handled brush and it retails for $2.39 on Misterart.com when you join their VIP club.
Finally there were some samples of L'Aquarelle Canson Heritage cold press watercolor paper. It is available in blocks of 20 sheets for $38.50 to $44.63 on dickblick.com or Amazon.
Also, there was a supplies list, an ArtSnacks sticker, and Sweetarts candy.
Doodlin' Time!
The Daler Rowney ink is very pigmented and stains the paper very quickly. You can dilute it with water to make a lighter shade of brown. The Tombow Twin Tip brush pen is really neat because it has a grey tip and a black tip which enables you to make a two tone drawing with one pen. The Caran d'Ache Supracolor Aquarelle pencil dissolves very smoothly when water is added and makes a very pretty shade of blue. I liked the thickness of the L'Aquarelle Canson watercolor paper and it took the ink and watercolor pencil very well without much warping.
'The Old Gate'
by Ellie Taylor
I decided to paint a wooden gate in an adobe wall since my main ink color was Antelope Brown. The Daler Rowney acrylic ink has a consistency more like a regular ink instead of a paint. The Liquitex acrylic inks are a little more like acrylic paint. I like them both, however, but I had to dilute the Daler Rowney ink quicker than a Liquitex ink because it stains the paper faster. I used the Caran d'Ache watercolor pencil to make a sky and it smoothed out very nicely. I also noticed that it didn't smear the Daler Rowney ink when I added the sky because the ink was already dry. I used the Tombow Twin Tip marker to add the final details and even added a little shadow with the grey tip. I painted this little picture on the Canson watercolor paper and it really gave a nice look to the painting. In my opinion, this kind of Canson paper is as good as Arches watercolor paper (which is my favorite brand). The Robert Simmons brush worked just fine for adding texture and details to the painting. Robert Simmons is one of my main brands that I use for painting so I was happy to get this in my box.
This was a fun box and I really liked the Tombow Twin Tip brush pen. I love the idea of having a two tone marker all in one tool! I think I'll see if they have some more colors in this line.
