February 2018 ScrawlrBox
For the month of February, Scrawlrbox featured watercolor pencils and their accessories. I have included my Amazon Affiliate links down below for those who want to try out these supplies for themselves.
When you open the box this is what you see. Faber-Castell watercolor pencils!
The first item I saw was a set of Faber-Castell Goldfaber Aqua watercolor pencils. This set contained 12 watercolor pencils. A set of 36 can be found on Amazon for $40.99 or open stock on dickblick.com for $0.99 a piece.
The next item was an accessory for the watercolor pencils. This accessory was a small Faber Castell waterbrush. This waterbrush is a small portable version for carrying around and making quick watercolor sketches. You can find it on Amazon for $15.47.
Last there was a Staedtler Mars Lumograph 4B pencil. This was an aquarell pencil and was water soluble. There was also a Staedtler Mars plastic eraser and a Staedtler metal pencil sharpener. These Staedtler Lumograph pencils are available on Amazon in a tin of six for $7.96. You can get the eraser and pencil sharpener in packs of four for $6.19 and $12.22 on Amazon.
There was also a piece of 5X7 watercolor paper, a beautiful floral print by the artist of the month, Carla Co Chua, a ScrawlrBox sticker, and a piece of watermelon bubble gum.
Doodlin' Time!
The Faber-Castell Goldfaber watercolor pencils had a nice selection of primary colors and dissolved in water very well. The small Faber-Castell waterbrush works very well and is nice and compact for traveling. The Staedtler Lumograph pencil also dissolves very well with water. The Staedtler sharpener makes a nice sharp point and the Staedtler eraser gets rid of marks very cleanly.
'Teddy Bear with Hat'
by Ellie Taylor
I drew the sketch of the teddy bear with the Staedtler Lumograph pencil and then colored it in with the Faber-Castell Goldfaber watercolor pencils. I then used the Faber-Castell waterbrush to dissolve the watercolor pencils and blend the colors. The Faber-Castell Goldfaber watercolor pencils blended together nicely, but I had to be careful that the Staedtler Lumograph pencil didn't blend into the lighter colors and muddy them. I think it would be best used alone to make a pencil wash drawing.
This was a really fun box and I got to try out the Faber-Castell watercolor pencils which were really pretty and vibrant.
