January 2018 ScrawlrBox

For January 2018 the ScrawlrBox featured tools for quick sketches. This box featured Magic Markers and a Palomino Blackwing pencil. For those who want to try some of these supplies for themselves, I have included my Amazon Affiliate links down below.

Here's what you see when you open the box. A Palomino Blackwing pencil! I've been wanting to try one of these!

The first items I received were two Magic Marker Twin Tip markers. These markers have a chisel nib and a fine nib. These markers are water resistant and blendable. The colors I received were Blue Violet and Spanish Olive. You can get them on Amazon for around $4.00 to $5.99.

The second item I got was an Edding 1800 Profipen drawing pen with a 0.1 mm tip. This pen is lightfast and waterproof. It is available on Amazon in a group of 4 and retails for $21.99.

Then there was the Palomino Blackwing 602 pencil with a brass bullet pencil sharpener. The Blackwing pencils have an adjustable eraser and a soft lead. These pencils are available on Amazon in a group of twelve for $22.95. The brass bullet sharpener made a very nice point on the pencil without breaking the lead. This sharpener retails for around $5 to $6 on Amazon and dickblick.com.

Finally there was an A5 size Silvine Sketchbook with 140 gsm cartridge paper. You can get this on Amazon for around $10.89.

There was also the supplies list, a ScrawlrBox sticker, an Eclair candy, and a print by the artist of the month, Leila.  The Eclair candy with caramel and chocolate was really good!

Doodlin' Time!

The Twin Tip Magic Markers seemed to have good coverage and blended a little bit. The Edding 1800 Profipen drawing pen was really nice for sketching. The Palomino Blackwing 602 pencil is very nice for drawing and is very smooth. The Silvine sketchbook works nicely with all kinds of different mediums.

'Cliff Dwelling Cave'

by Ellie Taylor

Using the Silvine sketchbook, I drew a rough sketch of a cliff dwelling located in the Southwestern United States. I first sketched the picture with the Blackwing pencil. Then I added some sketchy shadows and cracks with the Blue Violet Magic Marker. For the leaves on the bush at the foot of the ladder, I used the Spanish Olive Magic Marker. I added the final details on the ladder and the cliff with the Edding Profipen.

I really like the Blackwing pencil and I want more of them! I will definitely be getting a set of them. I like the smooth feel of the lead and the eraser works very nicely. This was a very nice box and I got to try out some supplies that I had been wanting to try for a long time.

Check out the ScrawlrBox at http://scrawlrbox.uk/  They start at £15 a month with free shipping in the UK. Everyone else pays shipping costs. For the US, the total cost is roughly $25 to $30 including the shipping cost.
