December 2017 ScrawlrBox
The December 2017 ScrawlrBox featured metallic watercolor paints. There was also a Zig water brush. For those who want to try some of these supplies for yourself, I have included my Amazon and MisterArt affiliate links down below.
When you open the box this is what you see. A beautiful set of metallic watercolor paints!
The first item was a set of 6 Gansai Tambi Starry Colors. The metallic colors were shades of gold: Blue Gold, Red Gold, Yellow Gold, Champagne Gold, Light Gold, and White Gold. This set retails for around $10.90 on Amazon.
The second item was a Zig BrushH2O water brush with a broad tip. This brush can be found in a pack of four on Amazon for $13.95.
Third I received a 05 Micron Pigma pen with black archival ink. You can get this pen in a set of 6 for $11.00 on Amazon or $2.23 a piece on Misterart.com.
Lastly there was a Derwent Graphic HB pencil. This pencil can be found in a set of 12 for around $10.18 on Amazon.com or open stock on dickblick.com for $1.07.
Finally there was the supplies list, a print from the artist of the month, two pieces of paper, and a Swizzels candy. The candy tasted like a watermelon taffy and was good.
Doodlin' Time!
There were two pieces of paper: a black one and a white one included in this box. I don't know the brand, but they looked like card stock. I used the black paper to swatch the Gansai Tambi metallic watercolors. The different shades of gold show up very well on the black paper and you can see the metallic shimmer.
'Mask of Golden Shades'
by Ellie Taylor
I used the white paper to make a quick ink and watercolor picture. I sketched the Venetian mask with the Derwent drawing pencil and used the water brush to apply the different shades of gold to paint the mask. I used the Micron Pigma 05 pen to sketch in the final details. The Gansai Tambi watercolors blend together nicely and give a nice shimmer to the picture. These watercolors are very pretty and look the best on a dark surface. The water brush was a good quality flat brush and didn't leak.
This was a neat box and a great opportunity try a new kind of watercolors. Check out the ScrawlrBox at http://scrawlrbox.uk/ They start at £15 a month with free shipping in the UK. Everyone else pays shipping costs. For the US, the total cost is roughly $25 to $30 including the shipping cost.
