The Creative Art Box for September 2017
This month I decided to try a brand new art box called the Creative Art Box. This box does not have an automatically renewing subscription, so you can get just one box, three months of boxes, or six months of boxes. You can get a regular box for $24 or for $5 more you can get the Super Awesome Box which is what I chose. For those of you who are interested in trying out these supplies for yourself, I have included my Amazon and MisterArt affiliate links down below.
When you open the box this is what you see. Oh boy! Air-drying clay! I've been wanting to try this!
The first items that I received were five small packs of Sculpt-it Air-Hardening clay. You can get a box of 150 of these small packs for $54.88 at Amazon. They are also available at dickblick.com.
Next there were two clay sculpting tools. You can find a set of 11 tools including these for $7.99 at Amazon.
Then there was a stamp with a mandala design on it. You can get a set of six stamps like this at Amazon for $5.88.
The next item that I received was a water-based Sharpie Paint Marker. The color I received was the pink fine point. You can find these in a set of three colors for $12.99 at Michaels.com. They have a forty percent off coupon every week and you can use it for these markers. These are available at dickblick.com too.
There was also a keychain kit to make a keychain with the clay. You can get a set of 50 pieces for $5.98 at Amazon.
There was some Rub'n'Buff wax metallic finish for painting on the clay. The color was Autumn Gold. This is available at MisterArt for $4.45 if you are a member of their VIP club.
The bonus item was a silicone mold for feather shapes. You can find this mold at Amazon for $5.99.
Finally there was the price list and a Creative Art Box sticker.
Clay Sculpting Time!
'Vienna Carnival Mask'
by Ellie Taylor
Well, it's been about twenty years since I've played with clay so I'm a little rusty. However, I managed to make a Venetian mask shape using the silicone mold for the feathers. I put the wax paste on the feathers and used the pink Sharpie paint marker. I also used some gold acrylic ink, black acrylic, and white acrylic paint to finish decorating the mask. I didn't get the clay as smooth as I would have liked, but that was due to my inexperience with clay and not the product. The Sculpt-It clay is a lot of fun and dries nicely. I like that you don't have to bake it! I really liked the Sharpie paint marker and I didn't even know that there was a water-based paint marker in that brand! The wax paste makes a very pretty metallic sheen, but make sure you are in a well ventilated area when you apply it because it has a very strong smell. I didn't use the Mandala stamp or the keychain this time, but I will use them in future projects. I only used one package of clay so I still have 4 more to play around with!
The Creative Art Box is a lot of fun and showcases different kinds of mediums. You can get it for one month, three months, or six months. One box costs $24 plus $5 shipping and for $5 more you can get the Super Awesome Box. In the Super Awesome Box you get an extra item. This box only ships to the US and subscriptions don't automatically renew. Check them out at https://www.creativeartbox.com/
