ScrawlrBox for August 2017
It's time for another ScrawlrBox review! The August 2017 ScrawlrBox featured Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers along with some neat drawing tools. For those who want to try these products for themselves, I have included my Amazon Affiliate links down below.
When I opened the box this I what I saw! Neat drawing stuff!
The first item that I received was a Derwent Precision Mechanical Pencil 0.5 mm with extra lead and erasers. I have gotten this in another subscription box and it is a very nice pencil. It retails on Amazon for around $13.28.
The second item was a drawing tool called an IsoSketch. This tool is for drawing 3D shapes such as cubes, cylinders, etc. You can find it at Amazon for $10.00.
The next items were two Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. These are alcohol markers with a brush nib and a bullet nib. They have a hexagonal shape which is an interesting feature and keeps them from rolling off your table. The colors I received were Old Lavender and Pink Lace. You can find these in sets on Amazon.com for around $16.50 for a set of six.
Then I received a Stabilo Point 88 Fineliner with a 0.4 mm tip. The color I received was black. These are available at Amazon in a set of 30 for $13.94.
The last item was a Derwent Shaped Eraser. I got the oval shaped eraser with an indentation for the thumb. This eraser is very ergonomic for your hands and I can't wait to try it out on my charcoal pictures! You can get this eraser on Amazon in a pack with both shapes for $6.21.
Finally there was a lemon hard candy, the items list, a ScrawlrBox sticker, two sheets of marker paper, and a print from the featured artist. The featured artist was Rob Turpin and it looks like he used the IsoSketch to make this neat drawing! Check him out at thisnorthernboy.wordpress.com. The Scrawlr Challenge for August was 'Imagination Palace'.
Doodlin' Time!
The Stabilo Point 88 Fineliner makes very fine lines and is good for drawing details. The Derwent mechanical pencil is very nice for sketching. You can get some neat shapes and quickly construct geometric forms with the IsoSketch tool. The Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers are in very pretty colors. (My two favorite colors are pink and purple!) The Derwent eraser is very comfortable to hold.
'Desert Sketch'
by Ellie Taylor
I used the marker paper (ScrawlrBox didn't say what brand it was.) to make a quick desert sketch. Then I used the Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to make a sunset sky and distant mountains. I also used them to make the foreground. The Stabilo Fineliner worked great to sketch in the saguaro cactuses and the underbrush. I sketched out the main saguaro with the Derwent pencil and used the IsoSketch to make straight lines on it. The Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers worked best when I held them upright so that the ink would flow down to the tip. I also had to be careful not to press really hard on the brush tip because that spread the fibers out too much.
This box had some really neat drawing tools in it and I got to try out some new markers! It was a lot of fun as usual! Check out the ScrawlrBox at http://scrawlrbox.uk/ They start at £15 a month with free shipping in the UK. Everyone else pays shipping costs. For the US, the total cost is roughly $25 to $30 including the shipping cost.
