SketchBox for July 2017 (Premium Box)

SketchBoxes for July 2017 are here! This month I tried out the Premium Box. This month's box featured technical pens and Derwent Procolour pencils. If you want to try some the supplies for yourself I have included my affiliate links for Amazon down below.

When you open the box this is what you see. Oooh look, Derwent Procolour pencils!

The first item was a 10 pack of Staedtler 0.3 mm Triplus Fineliner pens. This pack contains ten different colors. You can get this set from Amazon for $12.99.

The next items that I received were two Derwent Procolour pencils. The colors I received were Distant Green and Burnt Yellow Ochre. You can get these open stock for $2.02 a piece at dickblick.com or in sets of 12, 24, 36, or 72.

Next I got a Sakura Microperm 0.45 mm fine liner pen. This pen is waterproof. It retails for around $2.09 at dickblick.com or you can get a pack of 12 for $25.43 at Amazon.

Then I received a Derwent 0.7 mm mechanical pencil kit with pencil, lead, and erasers. This was a first look exclusive for SketchBox and isn't available for sale yet.

Last there was an Alumicolor Pocket Scale custom made for SketchBox and has their logo on it. This is a small ruler with three sides. You can get something comparable on Amazon for around $6.67.

There was the supplies list, a Sketchbox sticker, and the print from the artist of the month. The artist of the month was Carlijn Sturm. Check out her work on Instagram @carlijnartgallery.

The featured artist on the box was Coldmarii. You can follow this artist on Instagram @coldmarii.

Doodlin' Time!

The Sakura Microperm 0.45 mm pen makes nice fine lines and is waterproof. The Derwent Precision 0.7 mm mechanical pencil has a nice weighty feel and seems well made. The Derwent Procolour pencils are nice and smooth and have great coverage. I like the fine 0.3 mm tip of the Staedtler fine liner set and it has lots of colors in it. The SketchBox Alumicolor Pocket Scale is perfect for making quick short straight lines.

'Feathered Mask'

by Ellie Taylor

I used the Staedtler fineliner pen set and the Sakura pen to sketch a feathered mask. I started out with the Derwent Precision mechanical pencil for the rough draft. Then I used the Procolour pencils to make a nice base color for the feathers. I used the Staedtler pens to draw the details on the feathers and the mask. The Sakura Microperm pen is waterproof and doesn't smudge, but the Staedtler pens are water based and they will smear.

Overall this was a nice box with some really neat fine liner pens and a sneak peak of some new products! If you want to check this box out, SketchBox offers two subscription levels: the Basic Box for $25 plus $5 shipping and the Premium Box for $35 plus $5 shipping in the US. Right now, SketchBox only ships to the USA and Canada. Check them out through my referral link. https://getsketchbox.com/refer/Elean-IFGGOHVY
