July 2017 ArtSnacks Box
It's time for another ArtSnacks Box! For July 2017 this box featured Caran d'Ache Aquarelle pencils. For those who want to try these supplies for themselves, I have included my Amazon and MisterArt affiliate links down below.
When you open the box this is what it looks inside! Watercolor pencils, hooray! (I like watercolor pencils a lot.)
The first item that I received was a Derwent Graphic HB drawing pencil. You can get a set of 6 for $11.44 at Amazon or open stock at dickblick.com for $1.25 a piece.
Next I got two Caran d'Ache Museum Aquarelle watercolor pencils. The colors were Periwinkle Blue and French Grey. These retail for $3.96 per pencil.
The next item was a Pentel Duopoint Flex Double-Ended Brush Pen. This pen has two brush nibs: a small one and a larger one. You can get this pen for $5.99 at Misterart.com.
Last there was a combination sharpener and eraser tool from Derwent. This tool has an eraser on one end and a pencil sharpener on the other. Amazon carries this in a kit with two pencils for $10.69.
There was also the art supplies list, an ArtSnacks sticker, an Atomic Fireball candy, and a coupon for the Artist & Craftsman Supply. Check them out at www.artistcraftsman.com.
Doodlin' Time!
The Pentel Brush pen makes nice thin lines and has a flexible nib that gives a brush-like stroke. If you brush water across the ink from this pen, you can get a sumi ink look. The Derwent drawing pencil has nice coverage and the Derwent 2-in-1 Eraser/Sharpener worked great for sharpening the pencils. It also erased very cleanly. The Caran d'Ache watercolor pencils dissolved very smoothly when water was added and were very pigmented.
'Castle Ruins Sketch'
by Ellie Taylor
I used the Caran d'Ache watercolor pencils to add a little color to the ink sketch of old castle ruins. I sketched out the picture first with the Derwent drawing pencil and then did the final inking with the fine brush tip of the Pentel brush pen. I really like these Caran 'd'Ache watercolor pencils. They smooth out so nicely. Overall this was a very good box with lots of nice sketching materials.
