ScrawlrBox for May 2017
I received the May 2017 ScrawlrBox and it looks like office supplies are the focus for this time. This box features some fluorescent highlighter markers, an office pen set, and more! If you would like to try out some of these supplies for yourself, I have included my affiliate links for Amazon and MisterArt down below.
When you open the box this is what's inside. Look at all the pretty fluorescent colors!
The first items I received were three M Lighter fluorescent markers. The colors were pink, blue, and purple. These markers have a broad chisel nib for highlighting words. The highlighter brand that we commonly have in the US is Staedtler and they seem to be comparable to the M Lighter UK brand. You can find these at MisterArt for $1.36 a piece.
The next group of items that I received were three Koh-I-Noor dry markers aka Neon pencils. The colors I got were red, green, and yellow. I didn't even know that these pencils existed, but they remind me of the fluorescent crayons that I had when I was a kid. These are available in a group of six colors at Amazon.com for around $7.03.
Next I received a Staedtler Triplus mobile office pack. This pack consists of: a 0.3 mm felt tip pen, a 0.45 mm blue ink ballpoint pen, 0.5 mm mechanical pencil, and a 4 mm yellow highlighter marker. You can get this set at Amazon for around $8.20.
The next item was a black Stabilo pointMax marker. It has a 0.8 mm bullet nib. This marker pen can be found in a pack of four colors on Amazon.com for around $12.21.
Lastly I received a Silvine sketchbook with 140 gsm textured cartridge paper for all media. These sketchbooks retail for around $10 on Amazon.
Of course there was also the supplies list card, a print from the artist of the month, a Refreshers candy, and a Scrawlrbox sticker. The featured artist was Chip Whitehouse. You can watch him on Twitch at twitch.tv/chipwhitehouse. The candy was a lot like American Laffy Taffy and was good.
Doodlin' Time!
The fluorescent markers are nice and bright with good coverage. The Stabilo pointMax has a nice nib for making fine lines. The Koh-I-Noor Highlighter pencils have really bright colors and look fluorescent. The Staedtler Triplus mobile office set is a neat little set to carry around and the pens and pencil work just fine. The Silvine sketchbook has nice thick paper in it and works well with the fluorescent markers.

Since I had such bright colors, I thought I would play around with a cutesy design in Kawaii style. (Kawaii is a cutesy bootsey style of Manga. I am not a Manga artist, but I think Kawaii style is really cute.)
I drew a unicorn pegasus and used the fluorescent markers and the Koh-I-Noor dry marker pencils for coloring the wings and body. I used the black Stabilo pointMax marker for the outline, and I learned that the Stabilo pen will smudge if you color over it with the fluorescent markers. (Especially with the yellow fluorescent highlighter from the Staedtler Triplus mobile office set.)
Overall this was a neat box with some nice supplies for sketches and colorful art. These supplies are not really for professional art pieces, but are great for practicing in journals and sketchbooks. If you want to make prints of your artwork with fluorescent colors be aware that most regular scanners won't pick up fluorescent colors. However, you can just photograph your work with a good digital camera that will pick up fluorescent colors.
Check out the ScrawlrBox at http://scrawlrbox.uk/ They start at £15 a month with free shipping in the UK. Everyone else pays shipping costs and for the US the total cost is roughly $25 including the shipping cost.
