ArtSnacks Box for May 2017
We were promised a high viscosity paint for the May ArtSnacks box so this month Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic paint was featured! There were also some Art Crayons and brush cleaner in the May box. For those who want to try out some of these supplies, I have included my affiliate links to Amazon and MisterArt down below.
This is what you see when you open the box. A tube of Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic paint! Really neat stuff!
The first item in the box was tube of Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic paint. The color I got was Muted Green. Liquitex has released a new line of muted colors and this is one of the new colors. You can find this new set of muted colors at Amazon.com.
To go along with the acrylic paint theme the next item was a Prima White Gold #4 filbert brush. Hooray! I needed some more filbert brushes. This brush is so new that it isn't out in stores yet. Here is something comparable.
Following the acrylic painting theme, the next item was a small container of 'The Masters' brush cleaner. Since I already have some of this product, I know that it works. In fact, it works very well and I really recommend it. It gets dried up paint out of your paintbrushes. You can get this size for $1.96 at Misterart.com.
Last I received a brand new product that I've been wanting to try out: Marabu Art Crayons. These are water soluble crayons. I have two other brands of this kind of crayons, but I was going to try and find some of these. Thanks to ArtSnacks I get to test this brand! The colors I got were Aqua Green and Khaki. They retail from $2.39 to $3.99 at dickblick.com and Amazon.com.
Of course there was the art supplies list bookmark, a pamphlet on the Heavy Body Acrylic Muted Collection, the ArtSnacks sticker, and an Airheads Cherry candy.
Doodlin' Time!
The Marabu Art Crayons are very smooth and buttery and are water soluble. The Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic paint is nice and thick with good coverage. This color, Muted Green, is very strong and reminds me of another Liquitex color, Pthalocyanine Green. A little of this color goes a long way! I really like this filbert brush and it holds its shape well. Of course The Masters brush cleaner worked great, just like it always does.
'Bluebells'
by Ellie Taylor
Doing this painting was quite a learning curve! The rule, fat over lean, from oil painting applies with these Marabu Art Crayons. I used the Art Crayons to make the background and paint the Bluebell flowers. Then I used the Muted Green to paint the edges of the flowers and the stem. However, when I added water to the acrylic paint it came off and wouldn't stick to the Art Crayons. So what I needed to do was paint the acrylics first and then paint over it with the Art Crayons. I also noticed that the Art Crayons leave a little bit of texture even after water is applied so you get a grainy look. I really like these Art Crayons and I intend to get some more.
This month's box was great for me because I use all these products and I got to try out new colors and brands! If you want to try out this subscription box company, their website is http://www.artsnacks.co/ The boxes start at $24 a month with free shipping to the United States. International shipping is available, but it is not free.
