March 2017 ArtSnacks Box
ArtSnacks is celebrating its 4th birthday this month and they have included some special items in the March 2017 box. These special items include M. Graham watercolors and Stonehenge Aqua hotpress paper! I have incuded my Amazon Affiliate links down below for those of you who would like to try out these products.
Here's what you see when you open the box. Awesome watercolors!
The first items I received were two tubes of M. Graham & Co. watercolor paint. The two colors I got were Titanium White Opaque and Terra Rosa. These watercolors are made with honey and are highly pigmented. I was thinking about getting this brand of watercolors and now I can try these out and see if I like them! This brand is available at Amazon and dickblick.com. The prices per tube range from $8.15 to $13.30 depending on the color.
The second item in the box was a small 2.25X3.5 inch pad of Stonehenge Aqua hotpress paper. I've heard good things about this paper and I may have to get some more in the near future! This is a sample size, but you can get bigger paper sizes such as 9X12 inch at Amazon.
The next item was a Koh-I-Noor Triograph 2B pencil. This pencil has a unique triangle shape. You can buy a set of three pencils at Amazon for $9.38.
The last art supply in the box was a Protégé Taklon Angled Shader watercolor brush by Connoisseur. This brush retails for around $2.95. It can be found in different brush sets at Amazon.
The other items in the box were an Extreme Sour Warheads candy, a magnet with the ArtSnacks logo, a coupon for $4 off any ArtSnacks Store purchase in March, and the Art Supplies list. That Extreme Sour Warhead candy was the sourest candy I have ever eaten! It was a little too sour for my taste. There was a magnet instead of a sticker for the celebration of ArtSnacks' birthday this month. (It's on my fridge now!)
Doodlin' Time!
I used the Stonehenge Aqua paper to test out the supplies. I really like this paper. It seems to hold up well to the water without buckling. The M. Graham watercolors are very nice and have good coverage on this paper. The Koh-I-Noor Triograph pencil is very comfortable to hold and makes a nice sketch. I liked the Protégé Taklon Angle Shader brush very much because it has a nice chisel edge.
'Old Boots Sketch'
by Ellie Taylor
I used all the supplies to make this quick watercolor and pencil sketch of a pair of old boots. I really like the M. Graham watercolors. They dissolve well, but they also can behave like gouache and be applied thickly. I really like the surface texture of the Stonehenge Aqua hotpress paper. It is not too smooth, but has just enough tooth to work well with graphite. I think that I will have to get some more of these brands of watercolors and paper! Thanks ArtSnacks, for a look at these neat products!
