Paletteful Packs for March 2017

Paletteful Packs has sent out a new art subscription box for March 2017. For this month I ordered the Premier Pack box. This March box features colored pencil supplies! If you want to try out some of these supplies for yourself, I have included my Amazon and MisterArt affiliate links down below.

When you open the box this is what you see. Wow! A nice set of colored pencils!

The first item that I received was a set of 24 Bruynzeel colored pencils. These colored pencils come from Holland and are from the Sakura company. You can find these at Amazon.com for around $21.98.

The next item that I got was a 6X8 inch pad of Strathmore colored pencil paper. I was really excited to try out this paper! You can find this notebook pad from $2.89 at Misterart.com.

The third item that was in the box was a Tombow Mono Sand eraser. This eraser was originally created to erase ink, but they work really well for erasing colored pencils too.

There was also another type of eraser tool from Faber-Castell. This is an eraser pencil with a brush on the end of it. Way back in the Stone Age (The 80's and 90's, haha!) these were called typewriter erasers, but since no one uses typewriters anymore they are now used for art. I like to use these to work with my charcoal pictures. They can be found at Misterart.com for $2.56.

This item that I received next is going to make a huge difference in my colored pencil work! A Prismacolor Premier alcohol blender marker! I am very new to using alcohol markers and so I never thought of using this to help blend my colored pencils. I have never used alcohol to blend my colored pencils because I wasn't sure what to use or how much to use, but this an easy way to use alcohol for blending!

The next item was a Derwent Burnisher Pencil. These pencils retail around $1.39 a piece at Misterart.com.

Last I received a Derwent colorless blender pencil. You can find these at Misterart.com for $1.39 or cheaper if you join their VIP buyers club.

Doodlin' Time

I tried out the pencils on the Strathmore colored pencil paper that was in the box. I really like the paper because it has just enough tooth to be able to layer the pencils, but not so much that it hinders their coverage.

The Bruynzeel colored pencils are nice and smooth with very good coverage. The Derwent burnisher and blender pencils work very well to smooth out the colored pencils. The Prismacolor Premier alcohol blender marker is awesome for blending colored pencil and giving it a smooth watercolor look. The Faber-Castell pencil eraser stick works great for erasing colored pencil and the Tombow Mono Sand eraser does too.

'Guadalupe Peak in Colored Pencil'

by Ellie Taylor

I was really excited to try out the Prismacolor Premier blending marker and I was not disappointed. It worked great to blend the colors in the peak, the hills, and the foreground grass. This will help me to take my colored pencil art to the next level. I have been struggling with how to use colored pencils and this helps so much! I shall forever be grateful to Paletteful Packs for this suggestion. These are very nice colored pencils too and I really like this paper texture. If you are interested in checking out Paletteful Packs, their website is http://www.palettefulpacks.com/ They have two tiers of boxes : the Premier Pack for $34.95 and the Young Artist Pack for $29.95. Shipping is free for the United States. International buyers pay for shipping.
