February 2017 ScrawlrBox
It's February already and that means a new ScrawlrBox has been delivered! There's all kinds of neat art supplies in the February box including a Derwent pencil set and lots of fine liners! If you want to try these supplies or something similar, I have included my Amazon affiliate links to those products in this blog post.
Here's what you see when you open the box!
The first item I received was a Derwent Graphic Graphite Pencil Tin. There were six graphite pencils and a sharpener included in this set. The pencils were 8B, 6B, 4B, 2B, HB, and 2H.
You can find this set at Amazon or get them individually at dickblick.com. The price runs from $1.25 a piece to $12.65 for this 6 piece set.
The next item was a Pentel Superb Tech Needlepoint Pen. This pen has an oil based ink and a very fine tip for detail work. The ink is black in the pen that I got. You can get a pack of 3 for $4.99 at Amazon and you can get different colors, too.
The third group of art supplies were two Artline 220 Superfine 0.2 mm pens. These pens have a very fine nib. My box had two colors: Burnt Sienna and Orange. These pens can be found on the UK site www.tigerpens.co.uk/ That site ships worldwide. Right now, the 220 series does not seem to have any United states distributors, but you can get the 200 series at Amazon or dickblick.com.
The fourth item was a white Sakura Gelly Roll pen. This pen is lightfast and waterproof. These pens are available probably in every art store or office supply store. They are very popular and have lots of different colors. Amazon carries them in packs of 3 for $3.14.
To go along with the pencils, there was a pack of two Derwent Art Erasers. This pack contained a regular Art Eraser and a Soft Art Eraser. You can get these at Amazon for $6.27.
The last art supply was a softcover Seawhite A5 sketchbook. This sketchbook had 140 gsm paper in it which is a fairly thick paper. Amazon has a hardback version of this sketchbook for $11.50.
The candy this month was a chewy Black Current taffy candy. It tasted sort of like the Starburst candy that we have in the USA. It was good!
The print this month was by Gemma Stylz and shows off this month's ScrawlrBox challenge very well. The challenge this month was to draw something featuring "Nature's Eye".
Doodlin' Time
Since I received a Seawhite A5 sketchbook, I used it to test out my new art supplies! The pages are nicely textured and are thick enough to withstand markers. The Pentel Superb Tech Needlepoint pen makes a very fine line and is very smooth. The Artline 220 pens make very fine lines and will work nicely for inking details. The white Sakura Gelly Roll pen works just fine for making highlights on watercolor paintings and on other markers. The Derwent Graphite Pencils have a nice range of dark to light leads. The Derwent erasers are very clean erasers with very little debris when I use them.
This was another great box with some very nice supplies that are not readily available in the US. I really like trying out these new kinds of supplies! Check out the ScrawlrBox at http://scrawlrbox.uk/
They start at £15 a month with free shipping in the UK. Everyone else pays shipping costs and for the US the total cost is roughly $25 including the shipping cost.
